He thought it could one day be of use
A criminal has been sent to prison after he was caught with an old rusty razor blade. Scott Reavley, 48, of no fixed address, came to the attention of police after they had attended an unrelated incident on August 11 last year.
Smoke could be seen rising from woodland in Sherwood Way South, Sutton-in-Ashfield, causing extensive damage. Reavley was in the area and was initially arrested on suspicion of arson - which he denied and the charge was dropped at court on Tuesday . But, because the double-sided razor blade was found on him, and he had two previous convictions for possessing a bladed article in 2013 and 2016, he faced a minimum six-month sentence before Nottingham Crown Court. Reavley pleaded guilty to possessing the razor after he found it when he was sleeping rough in the woods.Benn Robinson, mitigating, told the court: "He thought it might come of use at some point in his life, living in those circumstances, and kept it in his pocket.
Judge Nirmal Shant, King's Counsel, imposed 146 days in custody, of which he will serve half, after giving him a discount for his plea of guilty.
