But she also said that such a designation would remain in place for content being viewed by children.Ms Donelan said:"We've strengthened [the bill] for children... If the content is illegal it has to go.Speaking about how adults would have their experience affected, Ms Donelan said that forcing companies to moderate harmful but legal content would have"unintended consequences".

Speaking to Sky News, Ms Donelan said:"[Mr Musk] is an individual that's purchased a private business, but it's important that we have those safeguard mechanisms around it. Ms Dorries said this could include content promoting self-harm, or legal suicide content - which does not encourage someone to take their own life but does show it as"positive or desirable".

Veteran backbencher David Davis said the legislation was a"censor's charter", adding that it would give the government the power to proscribe whatever content they liked as"harmful". Mr Sunak was criticised during this summer's leadership campaign for being perceived as soft on China, but he used his speech on Monday to show he will not stand for its actions, saying things are not black and white when it comes to China.
