A filthy, rubbish-strewn house described as a “renovation project” has sold at auction for an eye-popping £153,000.
The three-bedroom, terraced house is filled with hundreds of old carrier bags stuffed with junk - while shocking photographs show the living room and kitchen areas strewn with boxes, old appliances, clothes and a suitcase. In one bedroom, rubbish is piled up as high as the window frame. Eyebrows were raised when the council-owned property on Scott Lane West, Keighley, West Yorkshire, was put up for auction for £100,000 on Tuesday in its current state, without being cleaned up. But in the end, the property fetched £153,000 when it went under the hammer.In the auction listing, the property was described as being in a "sought-after location" and had potential to make a “pleasant family home”.
The listing said: "A renovation project comprising a semi-detached dwelling sold with vacant possession and requiring a full scheme of renovation. The property is sold as seen and contains a large amount of rubbish. "Arranged over two storeys, the property offers three bedrooms and also benefits from gardens to the front and rear and a rear garage, as well as its sought-after location.Several people took to social media to comment on the property, with one person saying the previous tenant should be charged for the rubbish.Another person commented: "Councils should make tenants to pay rubbish they leave behind, they know who they are, don’t waste taxpayer's money.
