A former Rutgers basketball assistant is returning to Steve Pikiell's staff.
Jay Young, seen here in the stands at a Rutgers-Indiana basketball game at Jersey Mike’s Arena in January, has returned for a second stint on Steve Pikiell's staff.
Young led the Stags to a 50-73 overall record and 32-46 record in the MAAC during the four seasons he spent in his first head coaching job. He, where the Stags fell to an Iona team coached by current St. John’s coach Rick Pitino. Fairfield returned to the conference championship under interim coach Chris Casey this season before falling to Saint Peter’s in the final.after spending three seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
Known as a specialist in developing centers and coaching the defensive end, Young helped former Rutgers star Myles Johnson become one of the Big Ten’s best rim protectors. He will be tasked with developing four-star freshman center Lathan Sommerville and mentoring junior Emmanuel Ogbole as they look to replace Cliff Omoruyi, who transferred to Alabama this offseason.
