Gavin and Stacey fans sat down in their droves to watch the surprise Christmas Day Special yesterday – 10 years after the original series began.
And it didn’t disappoint, with the same hilarious British banter leaving viewers laughing out loud and feeling nostalgic. But it was the ending that got everyone talking, with fan-favourite Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, popping the question to baby daddy Smithy. Leaving fans stunned, the moment came right at the end when Smithy’s girlfriend left for the night and Nessa and Smithy shared a cigarette.
But in true Gavin and Stacey form, before the loveable tradesman answered, the show ended, leaving everyone on tenterhooks. However, after previously insisting there would never be another series, Ruth has since hinted that they might think about bringing the show back for one more.“I do say never say never, as while we did make it work that was after three years of trying to find time when we could sit down and write it.”“It’s a shame we didn’t have more time when we were writing so we could have written more, then have it all ready to go.
