San Antonio Missions infielder Marcos Castañon went to the plate for a routine at-bat in an early season game against Corpus Christi . But when a pitch came flying into his face, Missions manager Luke Montz knew something was wrong. “He was removed from the game right away,” Montz said. “So we got it checked out, and he had a small fracture in his nose.” Castañon’s broken nose kept him out for about two months.

Wearing a clear mask similar to the one Kobe Bryant wore in 2012 after breaking his nose in the NBA All-Star game, Castañon went 7 for 23 with three RBIs, four runs scored and one home run against the Hooks. “He talks about it, and I think it's just part of the game,” Montz said. “He's going about it right. … But I think, for the most part, he's left it behind him.

Dungan has over 1,500 at-bats in the minors and has become the Missions' leadoff hitter due to losing many of their hitting prospects in the Luis Arraez and Juan Soto trades. Dungan struggled in his first at-bats with the Missions going 3-for-22 , but Montz has faith in him.
