SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio City Council reviewed the 2025 Proposed Budget for the Ready To Work Program.Next fiscal year, the council is requesting $49.5 Million, with the expectation that it will be self-funded by 2026.About 1,300 have successfully completed the training, with nearly 800 placed in a quality job.
Program organizers say 550 people unsuccessfully completed Ready To Work, but still, the mayor says the program is pivotal in helping families live better lives. “We cannot solve the crisis of housing in this country, or in this city, without also working on education, we have to work on increasing people's wages,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “And that means making sure they have the education and skill set to maintain the jobs that are being created that don't pay poverty wages.”
The mayor says the proposed budget of $49.5 million is not new money and is accrued, with most of it going to tuition.
