Alarming video footage has captured a violent brawl involving school children on a street in Bury on Wednesday afternoon, January 22nd. The chaotic altercation unfolded on Poplar Lane, near Hazel Wood High School , at approximately 3:30 pm. The footage, shared with the Manchester Evening News, depicts a large group of youths, believed to be students, engaging in a disturbance.

Throughout the clip, expletives can be heard as those involved appear to gather in a circle around a smaller group actively fighting. Multiple punches are thrown before one individual falls to the ground and is subsequently jumped upon by two others. Further kicks and punches rain down before the situation escalates into complete chaos, drawing in more participants. The Executive Secondaries Headteacher for the Oak Learning Partnership, Mr. Greenhalgh, released a statement on behalf of Hazel Wood High School, confirming the involvement of some of its students and stating that a 'thorough investigation' is underway. A concerned parent, who contacted the M.E.N, recounted that their child informed them of two boys being attacked by over ten other students around 3:30 pm. Expressing fear for their son's safety, the parent mentioned he had also been a victim of bullying. They revealed that they received the video footage from another parent, who was worried about their child's possible involvement, thankfully, they were unharmed. The parent expressed heartbreak over the reality of such violence prevalent in today's world.Greater Manchester Police confirmed they responded to reports of a fight at approximately 3:25 pm but arrived to find the groups had dispersed. Investigations are ongoing. In his statement, Mr. Greenhalgh emphasized that despite the incident occurring off school premises and outside school hours, the school takes these matters seriously. He reiterated that the safety and well-being of their students are paramount, and they have high expectations for their behavior. He assured the community that the school remains a safe and happy environment for learning. The school is conducting a comprehensive investigation, and appropriate actions, including disciplinary sanctions, will be taken against any students involved. A GMP spokesperson added: 'At around 3.25pm yesterday (22 January 2025), officers responded to reports of a fight on Poplar Avenue, Bury. Upon arrival, the group had dispersed. No injuries were reported at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.'
