The team's chip will incorporate multiple AI processors to analyze data at incredibly high speeds.

Ashutosh Kotwal, a physicist at Duke University, is working on a silicon device that will act as a “camera trap,” catching fleeting clues of dark matter.

“Our job is to ensure that if dark matter production is happening, then our technology is up to snuff to catch it in the act,” Kotwal said.In the Large Hadron Collider, protons are accelerated to nearly the speed of light before colliding with unimaginable force. This recreates the conditions of the Big Bang.

When beams collide at the Large Hadron Collider, they split into thousands of smaller particles that fly out in all directions before vanishing. PcharitoDark matter is invisible to detectors, but its presence might be inferred from the behavior of other particles.

Why Mount Rainier is the US volcano keeping scientists up at nightWhy Mount Rainier is the US volcano keeping scientists up at nightThe snowcapped peak of Mount Rainier, which towers 2.7 miles above sea level in Washington state, has not produced a significant volcanic eruption in the past 1,000 years. Yet, more than Hawaii's bubbling lava fields or Yellowstone's sprawling supervolcano, it's Mount Rainier that has many U.S. volcanologists worried.
