ScotRail has resumed some train services after a red weather warning issued due to severe winds caused widespread damage and disruption across Scotland.
ScotRail has confirmed the resumption of some train services following the red weather warning issued yesterday due to severe wind gusts. The initial plan was to restart services at 12 pm on Saturday, January 25th, however, this was delayed due to Network Rail dealing with over 400 incidents of damage on the railways caused by the high winds.
Services currently operational include: \The Met Office issued a danger to life warning earlier in the week, citing the risk of flying debris from buildings. ScotRail also stated that 'The vast majority of our routes remain closed while Network Rail continues its inspection and repair work. We hope to be able to operate some more services later today, but significant disruption will continue for the rest of today and into Sunday. Please check the ScotRail website and app for the most up-to-date information when planning your travel.' \One man died during the storm in Irvine, although police later stated that the death was believed to be due to medical reasons. Meanwhile, wind gusts reached 100 mph at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire, the highest recorded gust in the UK that day according to the Met Office. The rare red weather warning was extended from the central belt to encompass the southwest of Scotland, resulting in power outages affecting several areas.
