Tich Kent, 50, was riding down the 'north bing' near Philipstoun, in West Lothian, when he travelled over the strip of metal with several four-inch nails welded to it on Saturday. Travelling downhill at speed, the spikes were kicked up by Tich's back tyre and punctured his skin through thick clothing as he came to a halt.
"We quite fancied going up there on Saturday as it was a nice day, so we cycled up to the top and there are three steep trails going off the top bit, one of which is straight with no bends or corners. "I could still feel a pain so I asked my wife to look and she said I was bleeding. My back tyre obviously flung it upwards and one of the nails had gone through several layers of clothes to my backside.
"It maybe went in half a centimetre but it could have hit my front wheel and gone up and hit me on the neck. Imagine I fell on it, we'd then be talking about major injuries. My wound seems to be ok and doesn't look to be infected but I was worried with the spikes being dirty rusty nails."
