David Mcleod, owner of the award-winning Mcleod's Fish and Chips in Inverness, has hit out at celebrity chef Tom Kerridge for comments that he described as an 'insult'.

A popular Scottish fish and chip shop has slammed chef Tom Kerridge for "insulting" chippies across the UK in comments he made recently.

The chef, who has appeared on television programmes such as Great British Menu and Bake Off: Crème de la Crème, added: "But the people criticising me don’t understand how it’s priced. Fish and chips was always seen as cheap, fast food, and I get that because of where I grew up. He added: "I don’t know many chippies in Scotland that don’t take pride in their product and the supply chain we have here. Could I suggest Tom Kerridge that next time I think the fact that you produce good quality, it’s Harrods in #knightsbridge in #london would be defence enough rather than make the rest of us look cheap and nasty!"

A second visitor wrote: "The best fish n chips ever and I’m from Yorkshire! Perfect batter, tastiest fish and chips to die for. Staff helpful and brilliantly served a group of French cyclists with their order."
