Pensioners Lynn and Allan were hit with bills that ran into thousands of pounds, after a mistake with their meter readings.

A Scots couple have blasted Scottish Gas for putting them through ‘hell’ after billing them incorrectly for thousands of pounds. Lynn, 64, and husband Allan Dow, 77, had been loyal customers of Scottish Gas for over three decades.

Mrs Dow was not charged for the bills but she says they were still made to ‘live through hell’ and reported Scottish Gas to the ombudsman. “It all started after we moved in four years ago and we were having issues with our billing,” she said. "I exploded and phoned them several times but they kept telling me everything was correct. After a chat with a lovely lad from India we found out that the charges were not correct.

“We left to go to Octopus as we were sick of the way they were treating us,” Lynn added. “After our bill in January we decided we were going to fight them. No one seemed to want to listen to us.
