Trawler skipper Conor Cowan was arrested by Spanish police after 1.2 tonnes of cocaine was seized.
A Scots fisherman from the Outer Hebrides has been caught up in a huge international drugs bust involving a Norweigan kingpin and Mexican and Columbian drug cartels in what has been described as the world's "biggest cocaine smuggling operation."
The commandos seized 1.2 tonnes of cocaine from the boat, with a street value of £96 million, reports the Times. Cowan was arrested by Spanish police but has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing. he is currently being held in Spain. After moving to Glasgow to study, he spent much of his spare time in the 'Teuchter Triangle' - a collection of bars frequented by Highlanders and islanders.Former colleagues said Connor had dreamt of working overseas, one said: "Conor is a likeable rogue. He loved to party, drink and gamble and told me he had run up debts."
