Two flights were disrupted by smoke from Canadian wildfires that had travelled into UK airspace.

A Scots flight declared an emergency on the way to Shetland after a burning smell was detected on board.

Another pilot declared an emergency as they came in to land at the Shetland airport and also reported smelling smoke during the journey on Thursday.The Daily Mail reports that the Met Office and National Air Traffic Services have ruled that the cause was wildfire smoke from Canada brought across by the jetstream.

Pilots have now been issued with a warning about the smoke coming over in a Jetstream. The phenomenon is also creating unusual colours in the sky.
