McTominay was on target in partial comeback but killer blow extends poor Steve Clarke run
Sickened Scott McTominay admitted Scotland cut their own throats again after watching Poland deliver a killer injury time blow to their Nations League opener.
It means Clarke’s troops have now won just one of their last 13 games stretching back a full calendar year with 17 goals conceded in the last eight games ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Portugal. McTominay said: “It is a difficult one, I thought we were good in the game. At half-time when we were 2-0 down it was unjustified.“It is disappointing but we showed good character to come back into the game. We can take belief from the game.
He said: “Obviously when you say it like that, it's not nice to hear, but there's been good performances in there like tonight. We just need to go back to basics. We're a good team. “I had a good chance. It was kind of awkward in between my volley and head and I just couldn't really get my hip high enough to come back across because I wanted to come back across the keeper.”
