Vogue features an interview with Caroline Kent, founder of Scribble & Daub, known for her design-led, paper-based works and Christmas-themed products. Kent discusses her Christmas traditions, from decorating the tree to baking spiced biscuits.
The work of Scribble & Daub’s Caroline Kent is part stationery, part fine art. Having worked as a curator at a gallery in Scotland for 10 years, she transitioned to making design-led, paper-based works in 2012 – with Vogue immediately enamoured with her cards, each of which is hand-printed on an old Heidelberg press and painted with Dr PH Martin’s inks.
If you’re looking to shop, though, I’d recommend heading to Rye; Soap and Salvation is a trove of antiques in an old Salvation Army chapel, while Adams of Rye is the wonderful old-fashioned stationers where all Scribble & Daub products are printed. Hastings and St Leonards are fantastic for truffling, too, with so many great independent stores and junk shops. Hawk & Dove is the best for vintage – and the Flower Maker’s Museum on Hastings High Street is fascinating.
