Sean Dyche said Everton fans were brilliant against Luton Town and gave the players the opportunity to build on the momentum created in the week before the game

Sean Dyche believes Everton’s home fans gave his side the perfect platform to break its dismal record at Goodison Park.

After a week in which Everton had earned two impressive away victories, at Brentford and Aston Villa in the Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively, there were high hopes that newly-promoted Luton would provide an ideal opportunity for the positive momentum to continue into L4. After the game, Dyche was asked whether it was a psychological issue with the the pressure of an expectant Goodison weighing on the players’ mind. But the Everton manager dismissed that as a factor, stating the supporters could not have done more.

“We have just had two great results on the road. It travels quickly here, the noise, because so many go on the road, so many went down to Brentford - I have always had respect for away fans, all fans, but particularly away fans, it costs a lot of money, loads go to Villa, two very good performances, with the right style, quality, grit and determination to see it through, and there isn’t anything to factor in other than just going and playing.
