Iliman Ndiaye has made a big case to start on Saturday, but that would mean one of Dyche's favourites dropping out
It has been a long time since a player in Everton blue scored a goal like Iliman Ndiaye did on Tuesday night against Doncaster Rovers. The tight spin, the surge forward, the trickery and the finish all neatly combined was at odds with so much of the stolid attacking play that has been on display in recent years. Granted, it came against fourth-tier opposition but it was striking nonetheless. The small steps and smart touches were mesmerising for a fanbase starved of inspiration.
At Marseille he was used in a wide position frequently and they did not see the best of the former Sheffield United man. If it was Doucoure who made way then it would not be unjustified. Since his return to the team from injury early in the year the 31-year-old has not reached the levels he previously hit under Dyche. While he continues to work hard and offer some physical presence, the goal contributions that made Doucoure such a threat in the 2022-23 season have dried up.
