Local groups in Shepparton have pressed the need for a second river crossing in the city to a Victorian parliamentary inquiry into last year's floods.

abc.net.au/news/victorian-flood-inquiry-hears-need-for-second-bridge-shepparton/102850936A Victorian parliamentary inquiry into the October 2022 flood has heard about the need for more support for multicultural communities as well as a second river crossing over the Goulburn River in the Shepparton region.

Speaking after the hearing, Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District manager Sam Atukorala said it was important that emergency services workers had the right cultural training during disaster events like the floods."Especially in an area like [the Goulburn Valley] where we have got a lot of multicultural community members," he said.

"They do take time off their normal day-to-day job to actually support [residents during] these events such as floods and bushfires," he said. The inquiry committee also heard from several local groups about the need for a second river crossing over the Goulburn River within the Shepparton region.
