Senegal is poised to commit $2.7 billion to its green energy transition plan if Prime Minister Sonko's party wins the upcoming parliamentary election.
Senegal could soon announce a $2.7-billion commitment to its internationally-backed program to reduce emissions and reliance on fossil fuels if the party of the current president and prime minister-appointee wins this weekend’s parliamentary election s.
The program is aimed at mobilizing and supporting investments to help Senegal achieve universal access to energy and consolidate a low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable energy system. International partners and multilateral development banks were expected to mobilize $2.7 billion 2.5 billion euros in new and additional financing over an initial period of 3 to 5 years, starting in 2023, to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy.
