Justices have ruled whether Shamima Begum can appeal the removal of her British citizenship at the Supreme Court
In a significant setback for her supporters, the Supreme Court has ruled that Shamima Begum will not be permitted to challenge the revocation of her British citizenship. Ms Begum, now 24, lost her appeal against the decision to strip her of her citizenship on national security grounds at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission last year.
In their verdict, Lords Reed, Hodge and Lloyd-Jones denied Ms Begum the opportunity to take her case to the Supreme Court, finding her proposed appeal grounds "do not raise an arguable point of law".The three justices stated there was no arguable challenge to the Court of Appeal's decision, including on whether Ms Begum should have been able to make representations to the then-Home Secretary before her citizenship was revoked.
