One neighbour desperately held a tea towel to the bloody wound of the man who had been attacked by what another neighbour describes as a 'huge' Rambo-style knife.
Shocked residents have told how they heard 'screams' after a man was stabbed in a car park by a masked gang.
One neighbour told that he heard a woman scream moments before he ran up his street to find a man bleeding. He said: "I rang the ambulance. I heard this scream looked down the road and there was this guy on the floor. I walked up Chamberlain Street and it looked like someone had been slashed with a knife. You could tell he had been sliced, I live in the building behind. It's right on my doorstep.
He said: "I was just stood outside the flats and I heard screaming so I ran over and this guy had been cut up, it was on his back and on his head. It was bad but he was conscious, I think it must have been adrenaline. I was trying to help put pressure on his wounds, but he was shouting for people to get off him. He never lost consciousness.
