'If you can afford to pay this for ketchup you have too much money'
Shoppers were left perplexed after spotting 'ridiculous' high prices for Heinz ketchup in Tesco stores.
"Ketchup is £4.40 in Tesco, who is responsible for this?" one person fumed on Twitter. Another branded the dire situation "tomatogeddon", remarking: "If you can afford to pay this for ketchup you have too much money." Other shoppers expressed concern over the increasing struggle to make their cash go far enough to feed their families. "I used to spend £2 on Bisto Best. It’s now £4+. Ketchup £4," someone else wrote. "Own brand cat food has doubled to £4.90 for only six cans-used to get 12 for £5. Chicken breast £3.75 now £6+. It's unsustainable, unaffordable and terrifying," they added.
It comes after Tesco announced that it will be price-locking thousands of its products until Easter, in a bid to help customers with the seemingly ever-rising cost of living. The price lock will cover the supermarket's fresh, frozen, and cupboard items, as well as health and beauty products, pet food and household items.
