Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding and a sinkhole in Greater Manchester, leading to road closures, railway disruptions, and a major incident declaration by police.
A huge sinkhole has opened up on a Greater Manchester street - as flooding continues to cause chaos across the region. The road has collapsed on Taylor Street, Hyde. Pipes can be seen protruding from water at the bottom of the sink hole, which formed in the early hours of the morning. Debbie Cotgrave, who lives nearby, said: 'I'd been out last night, got a taxi back and went to bed. 'I heard a bang and went back to sleep, thought nothing about it. Then I woke up to this.
' A number of other road closures are in place across Greater Manchester following heavy rain overnight - with a sinkhole also reported on Delph New Road, Delph. These include the A555 Airport Relief Road and the M56. Railway disruption is also reported around Manchester Piccadilly and elsewhere. A number of train operators have urged passengers not to travel. Greater Manchester Police has declared a 'major incident' as a result of the flooding. The Environment Agency has dozens of flood warnings, which mean people should 'act now' in place across the region. The flooding has also seen a nightclub evacuated and people left trapped in their homes. Other properties have been evacuated by the fire service
