Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed a special Scottish feast, including haggis, at the new fine dining restaurant Li-Ly in Knutsford, Cheshire, coinciding with Burns Night.
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted enjoying a special Scottish feast at a top chef's new fine dining restaurant in Cheshire. The former Reds manager dined at Li-Ly Restaurant in Knutsford , the latest venture from award-winning chef Aiden Byrne. Coinciding with Burn's Night, the celebration of Scotland 's national poet Robert Burns, Ferguson and his companions, including long-time pal Ged Mason, boss of Manchester's Morson Group, requested a special Scottish treat.
Aiden Byrne, known for his innovative menus and seasonal dishes, happily accommodated the request, preparing a one-off haggis dish for the table. The restaurant, housed in a historic 18th-century timber-clad building, has already garnered acclaim for its monthly-changing seasonal taster menus. Regular January dinner set menus feature dishes like braised pork cheek, roasted scallop, and blood orange and bergamot cured monkfish. However, on this special occasion, Sir Alex's table enjoyed the traditional Burn's Night staple of haggis, neeps (mashed turnips), and tatties (mashed potatoes), accompanied by a dram of whisky.Chef Aiden, who achieved the distinction of being the youngest ever Michelin Star winner at the age of 22, has previously presided over award-winning restaurants across the north west, including the former Manchester House and 20 Stories. He and his wife Sarah also previously ran the popular gastropub The Church Green in Lymm for 16 years before embarking on their latest culinary adventure with Li-Ly Restaurant
