Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson was seen at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground ahead of their League One match against Peterborough, sparking speculation about his presence.
Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted at the Racecourse Ground ahead of Wrexham 's League One fixture. Wrexham are enjoying life in League One following last season's promotion as they are in the thick of the promotion race. Phil Parkinson's side, however, will be looking to bounce back from their New Year's Day defeat to Barnsley. Ferguson's son, Darren, is the manager of Peterborough , who hope to claim a big win on the road.
Darren, 52, returned to Peterborough for his fourth stint back in January 2023, having managed them in three different spells. Speaking ahead of today's game, Parkinson compared his Wrexham side to Ferguson's Man United following their dramatic victory over Wigan Athletic last week. 'In terms of sticking to the job and showing character and strength and personality, I thought all that was high. It’s difficult to keep producing performances,' he said. 'It’s sometimes difficult and you look at the other results around the country - Birmingham at home, Huddersfield at home - have failed to go back-to-back wins at home so it’s an amazing win for us against a good team. But the mentality of the group is so strong and it showed again.' Parkinson added: 'I was watching the Sir Alex documentary yesterday and Manchester United go right to the wire and we’ve got that mentality here. We go to the end and we always believe we can get a goal and Fletch has produced a real quality strike for us to win the game.'
