Sky Mobile customers who are currently out of contract are facing a price hike starting on February 14th. The increase will add £1.50 to their monthly bill, equating to an additional £18 per year. This price adjustment affects pay-monthly and Sim-only plans, while customers still within their contract term will not be impacted. Sky Mobile is also raising the cost of international calls and text messages. The company states that these changes are necessary to continue investing in their services and provide a high-quality customer experience.

Sky Mobile customers who are out of their contract are being warned that they will see a rise in their monthly bills starting from Friday. Out-of-contract Sky customers will see their monthly bills increase by £1.50, which is an extra £18 a year. The change will take effect from February 14 for pay-monthly and Sim-only customers. Customers who are still within their contract period will not be affected.

Sky Mobile is also hiking the cost of calls to the EU and EEA by 4p, making it 25p per minute, while calls to the rest of the world will go up by £1 to £3.50 per minute. The price of sending an international text message outside Europe will also increase by 20p to 95p. According to recent data from industry regulator Ofcom, 37 per cent of all pay-monthly mobile customers are out of contract. Given that Sky Mobile has around three million customers, it's estimated that up to one million could see their bills rise. However, customers still within their contract term will not see any changes to their bills. Customers uncertain about their contract status can text 'INFO' along with their date of birth in the format DDMMYY to 85075. The provider should then respond immediately to clarify, including information on potential exit fees for leaving. Alastair Douglas, CEO of Totally Money, said: 'There’s a lot of deals out there, with varying contract lengths, voucher incentives, and offers. Just shop around to see what each provider is offering, and double-check the network coverage before signing up. 'It might also be worth considering buying a handset and getting a separate Sim-only plan — Ofcom estimates that on average it’s 23% cheaper than getting a packaged contract. You could even purchase the phone with a 0% credit card, allowing you to spread payments for up to 22 months without paying any interest.' A Sky Mobile spokesperson said: 'We always aim to provide an outstanding service alongside some of the best value plans on the market. To ensure we can continue to invest in our services and deliver a great experience, the majority of our out of contract customers will see their monthly bill increase by £1.50 in February.' It comes after inflation-linked mid-contract price rises on phones, pay-TV and broadband were banned by Ofcom, which does not affect Sky, but will affect other broadband customers and mobile users. Most other mobile networks implement their mid-contract price increases around April 1, making Sky Mobile an exception. Sky Mobile has traditionally issued its price rises in fixed amounts of pounds and pence, unlike other networks that tie their increases to inflation. However, as of January 17, all telecoms firms are required by Ofcom to display mid-contract price increases in pounds and pence
