The fun continued at SLE Rodeo at Garrett Coliseum during the third and final day on Sunday. Cowgirls and cowboys from across the nation have been competing since Friday for cash and prizes in various roping and riding events. Several local music acts have performed, and children have had a chance to learn to rope and wrangle some pretend cows and horses in the stick horse rodeo.
The Dizzy Bat Diamond Dash was one just one of the highlights at the rodeo Sunday, and the winner was presented with a diamond necklace from Tallassee Jewelers. Youth from all over Alabama showed off the cows, pigs and other animals they’ve raised at the Junior Livestock Expo. Liz Laurie Bogie with the SLE Rodeo says, “We put on SLE rodeo every year so that we can give kids the opportunity here in the city to experience the farm here in the city. We love giving them educational opportunities. Its getting them up close and personal with the animals and livestock and allowing them to learn more about Alabama’s number one industry.
Proceeds from the SLE Rodeo go to support scholarships, the FFA Foundation, Alabama 4-H, the Children’s Miracle Network and other youth organizations.
