Snow and ice hits Lancashire as 'extreme weather conditions' lead to crashes and road closures
Snow and ice has hit parts of Lancashire with police warning drivers to 'only travel if it is absolutely necessary' on certain routes following a series of crashes.
The M66 remains shuts this morning following a serious crash. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions four and three at around 7.30pm last night following reports of a crash involving two cars.One person was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Two others were injured, with another also taken to hospital and the third treated at the scene by paramedics.
"We urgently advise people to: Only travel if it is absolutely necessary.; Leave plenty of time for travelling; Drive with caution." It comes as police are advising people to only travel if “absolutely essential” after freezing weather conditions resulted in dozens of road accidents. The UK Health Security Agency , a Government health agency, issued a level three cold alert on Monday in response to “severe winter weather”.
