After a break in heavy snowfall that caused school closures and power outages, Nottingham residents could see snow return in the next couple of weeks. The Met Office forecasts mostly dry weather this weekend with overnight frost and fog, and temperatures continuing to drop. Later in the week, wetter and windier conditions are expected, with a chance of snow showers if winds shift towards the east.

After a pause in the heavy snowfall experienced at the start of January that led to school closures and power outages, Nottingham residents could see snow return in the next couple of weeks.

This weekend is likely to be mostly dry, the Met Office said, with “extensive cloud breaking to give some limited clearer spells”. However, this will also bring some overnight frost and fog. Temperatures will continue to trend downwards, meaning it could get quite cold over the weekend. Across the UK, the early part of next week will see fairly quiet and mostly dry weather, with the greatest chance of rain likely to be in the far northwest of the UK and possibly in the far south. Later in the week, periods of “much wetter and windier weather” will become more prevalent and ahead of this a colder, more settled southeasterly wind “may develop for a time”. There is a chance the wind could turn and bring the risk of snow showers.

“Later in the week, periods of much wetter and windier weather will most likely eventually become more prevalent, from northwest to southeast. Ahead of this a colder, more settled southeasterly wind may develop for a time. There is a small chance however, that alternatively winds could turn much more easterly, and colder, bringing the risk of snow showers.”“A dominant flow from the Atlantic looks likely through this period, resulting in an unsettled, milder and windier than average period.
