Mum enrols at university on SAME DAY as 'horrified' teenage son - and they've just graduated together
A mother and son duo from Southport have just celebrated their graduation - after she enrolled at university on the same day as him.
Now, 58, the mum reveals she applied to the same university in a bid to realise her dreams. And she's done exactly that. "I was like, I don’t want you to come, but it turned out pretty well to be honest. After travelling for a bit I was like, what to do now? Because I did Marine Conservation at Fiji so I was like, yep I want to do that. To get in a had to do a thing called fast track, I applied and got in. And then my mum was like, well, I’m coming with.Gail's decision to apply to Edge Hill came after she had long presumed she had missed her chance.
When the pair started their courses, the reality of the ground rules turned out to be "the complete opposite". The 24-year-old explained: "I was fine, I luckily managed to stay at a friend’s accommodation on campus who is one of my best mate’s from my mum’s class. I just did the normal uni life and after I got all that out of my system, I met a girl named Cleda and she’s been my girlfriend for the past three years now.
Ben set up the University's Eco Garden Society, volunteers with the National Trust and is a regular cleaning the boardwalk at Formby beach. Gail supported Childline and volunteered with the Independent Monitoring Board ensuring the fair treatment of prisoners.
