Aileen Scott was on holiday in Blackpool when she fell ill and was admitted to Blackpool Victoria Hospital
The son of a patient who was sedated by a nurse on the Stroke Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital has spoken of his horror at learning what she was subjected to.
But while on the ward, Hudson administered sedatives which were not prescribed to Mrs Scott to make her own job easier. It was only when a student nurse, who was on placement on the unit, had a conversation with Hudson which alarmed her that the crime came to light. When the student told Hudson Mrs Scott, a patient in her early 70s, had been unsettled overnight, Hudson said to give her zopiclone.
Her son Brian described how, while she was on the ward, his mother had been upset and crying a lot - a common side effect of zopiclone, the sedative given to her by Hudson. Speaking outside court, Brian Scott said: "I’m delighted to see that justice has been done here today and the student nurse - how brave. Let that be a message to everybody, if you ever see something that’s not right, say it.
