The father of a Black woman fatally shot by an Illinois sheriff's deputy spoke at a press conference on Monday after body camera footage of the deadly encounter was released.Sonya Massey, 36, called police to report a possible intruder at her home in Springfield on July 6. One of the responding officers, Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Grayson, 30, allegedly shot Massey three times after the two got into an argument about a pot of hot water in the residence.
'While she's staring down the barrel of his gun that he's drawn on her, she says her last words 'Sorry, sir I'm sorry,' she ducks and when she stands back up, he shoots her in the face,' Crump said.Crump described the shooting as disturbing.'Where is the humanity? Where is the training?' Crump said. 'Until we get justice for Sonya Massey, we rebuke this discriminatory criminal justice system in the name of Jesus.
