The scenario was pretty thorough. Students got to see everything from getting someone out of a car, treating someone with injuries and arresting a drunk driver.

) -It’s an up close and personal look at the dangers of drunk driving. Road safety advocates from the University of South Alabama teamed up with mobile’s public safety department to put on a mock crash on campus as part of the school’s road safety event. Alexis Hatton says her, and some other students came up with the idea after she was involved in a crash with a drunk driver.

Mobile Police and Fire-Rescue came together to show students how they respond to a deadly DUI crash from start to finish. Responding to these types of accidents is something firefighters say they respond to all too often. “We realize that lectures and stuff like that with college students they don’t really work too well and you kind of zone out,” said Christian Harris. “So basically, we wanted to create an actual experience so you could see the consequences before they ever happen.”
