A Boeing jet operated by Jeju Air crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, resulting in 179 fatalities. The aircraft veered off the runway after a failed landing, colliding with a barrier and bursting into flames. Preliminary investigations suggest a bird strike may have caused the malfunction of the landing gear. This tragic incident follows a recent passenger jet crash in Azerbaijan on Christmas Day.
The death toll in a harrowing South Korea n plane crash has mounted to 179, in the aftermath of the mishap that only recently unfolded. Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 was consumed by fire after a catastrophic deviation from the runway at Muan International Airport, heaping tragedy upon tragedy following the appalling Christmas Day disaster in Azerbaijan where a full passenger jet met its end in a fiery crash.
Onlookers have seen chilling visual records showing the jet splitting and bursting into flames, marking it as one of South Korea's most calamitous aviation disasters in over ten years. Investigative teams, alongside emergency personnel, are rigorously scrutinizing the factors leading up to the blaze, dispatching 32 fire engines and numerous helicopters to manage the inferno, reports the Express.
Following the tragedy, Acting President Choi Sung-mok, who took over leadership of South Korea last Friday after his predecessor was impeached, has called for a full-scale rescue mission. Choi travelled to the Central Disaster Management Headquarters in Seoul at 9.50am before heading to the crash site, which is located 300km from the capital.
