The Foreign Office has warned UK tourists in Spain they could face a hefty fine for not wearing 'appropriate' clothing in certain areas, and it's left Brits confused
The Foreign Office has clarified: "In some parts of Spain it's illegal to be in the street wearing only a bikini or swimming shorts. Being bare-chested is also illegal in some areas in Spain. You could be fined if you're caught wearing swimwear on the seafront promenade or adjacent streets.
Depending on your location within the country, fines of up to £500 can be imposed on anyone violating the ban. Barcelona, which welcomes 27 million visitors annually, issues £250 penalties to individuals sporting their one and two-pieces in public. As reports Birmingham Live, a local Spaniard responded to the warning, stating: "The shirt thing is "iffy". I'm not sure what the motivation would be, particularly in beachfront areas. But perhaps the British government is trying to somehow encourage improving the sordid reputation of "Brits abroad"?
