An update on the progress of rectifying State Pension underpayments is due this month.
The Department for Work and Pensions announced last week that an update on the progress it is making to identify and rectify historical State Pension errors will be published before the end of this month. Pensions Minister Paul Maynard MP said that the report will cover progress made up until the end of February this year.
Citizens Advice online has a dedicated State Pension section which also includes a handy checklist for people to quickly identify whether they may have been underpaid. It’s worth noting that historical errors affect mostly women living across the UK. Married Widowed Over 80 State Pension underpayments - Home Responsibilities Protection Some 210,000 older people - mostly women - are due a share of underpayments totalling £1.3 billion, equivalent to some £5,000 each. DWP has also previously said that those closest to the State Pension age in their 60’s and 70s are being issued letters first.

During this period the DWP put in place a manual system with HMRC to update an individual’s National Insurance record where they felt they qualified for National Insurance credits in respect of time on Universal Credit.
