Mum-of-four Lisa Anderson said she had swerved 'to protect him and my babies' - but jurors took just 30 minutes to find her guilty of causing William Pender's death by careless driving.
Lisa Anderson, 37, motored into William Pender, 75, while behind the wheel of her Land Rover Discovery. The impact sent him into the air as he crossed a road outside a private school in Hamilton , Lanarkshire.
The mum-of-four denied any wrongdoing and went on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court but jurors took just 30 minutes to find her guilty of causing death by careless driving.In evidence, she said: "I tried to swerve to protect him and my babies. It happened so fast that I was confused. The trial heard she was interviewed by police and said: "I was in the right hand lane and people were turning for the college.
He said: "There was a gentleman on the opposite side of the carriageway with a head injury and looked in distress. His colleague Peter Murphy, 51, added: "I spoke to a GP and asked her the condition of the casualty and then went over and spoke to the driver of the Land Rover and asked if she was okay and she said she was."
