Temperatures drew back from the 90s, and humidity took a day off.
The conditions bestowed upon the District on Saturday, the brightness, the dry warmth, the temperate overall splendor, all suggested why June enjoys one of the more desirable reputations among months.
With all the benevolence that was Washington’s atmospheric lot on Saturday, the recorded measurements, at least as far as the highs and the lows, came close to average for a 15th of June. Washington’s high came to 87. That is warm, to be sure, but remains several significant degrees below the 90-degree threshold, the figure that seems to inaugurate the searing days of summer.Rather than hot, Saturday seemed merely warm, pleasantly warm, in the way that warmth is expected and even welcomed at this time of year. Significantly, the 87-degree high was only two degrees above the average high for the date.Another major contribution to Saturday’s comfort came from the low temperature.
But humidity, it turns out, against all fears and expectations, did not enter the picture. Dryness carried the day. Yes, there was a heat index, a measure of how it feels when both heat and humidity are considered.
