Plans for a large-scale solar farm in Staffordshire, capable of powering 11,500 homes, have been rejected by local councils and sent to appeal. The project, located near Cheadle, aims to generate 49.99 megawatts of electricity and would operate for 40 years. While the applicant argues the site is suitable and the impact will be minimal, the project faced strong opposition from residents.
Plans for a substantial solar farm in Staffordshire , capable of producing enough electricity to power 11,500 homes annually, have been appealed after facing rejection from both East Staffordshire Borough and Staffordshire Moorlands District councils. The proposed solar farm , located near Cheadle, is slated for a 40-year lifespan, with plans to dismantle it upon completion of its operational term.
The project encompasses land situated between Bramble Cottage, on Greensmiths Lane, and Lower Tean Leys, Upper Leigh. The development aims to generate approximately 49.99 megawatts of electricity. However, despite exceeding the threshold requiring government consent, the project encountered significant opposition during the application process. While three letters of support were received, a considerable 208 objections were lodged with the two councils.Applicant Lightrock Power Ltd asserts that several comparable applications have been successful at appeal and argues that the proposed site does not encroach upon any of the 'best and most versatile' agricultural land. Though acknowledging potential adverse impacts on the landscape and scenic views, the company maintains that these effects would be localized and limited in scope
