Donald Trump's victory has fuelled fears that European Nato members, including the UK, will have to increase financial and military support for Ukraine

Donald Trump's victory has fuelled fears that European Nato members, including the UK, will have to increase financial and military support for Ukraine

At Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, new Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said: “His Chancellor’s Budget did not even mention defence. The Chancellor’s Budget last week was a copy and paste of Bidenomics. Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge said: “In July, Keir Starmer took off to Washington within 48 hours of becoming PM to state that his commitment to 2.5 per cent was ‘cast iron’.

The Ministry of Defence pointed out that the Chancellor had said in her Budget: “There is no more important job for government than to keep our country safe, and we are conducting a Strategic Defence Review to be published next year. “Last year, the NAO identified a £17 billionblack hole in the MoD finances. The former Defence Secretary said the previous government hollowed out the armed forces, and the plan they put forward at the election was pure fantasy.”
