Stony silence response as Chorley Council leader begs for cash to repair local roads
A call from the leader of Chorley Borough Council for Lancashire road bosses to hand his authority control of the cash used to repair the borough’s roads has been greeted with stony silence.
That was a reference to the county council’s bible for prioritising road resurfacing, known as the Transport Asset Management Plan . Introduced in 2015, it laid out a 15-year strategy for the pre-planned maintenance of the 4,600 miles of highway under the authority’s control. More than £914,000 will be spent in the borough out of the £10.2m set aside for carriageway improvements on identified routes. The rest of the £28m pot is spent on footpaths and other highways infrastructure like bridges, lampposts and traffic lights.
