Slugs can be a gardener's worst nightmare as they destroy any beloved flowers or crops in a matter of hours, but there is a simple way to keep them away from your garden.
Gardeners are all too familiar with the battle against slugs, which can devastate plants and crops within hours. However, as we approach the end of summer, the peak season for these pesky molluscs due to their breeding cycle, there's an increased threat posed by them, particularly when vegetable patches are ripe for the picking.
Sheryl Normandeau, master gardener and creator of Flowery Prose, recommends a "tried-and-true" trap made from household ingredients that slugs find absolutely irresistible. Normandeau advises: "Beer traps have long been used for slug control but there is another way to trap them that doesn't involve you sharing your precious brews . Try this very basic yeast trap instead."
Gardening enthusiasts are turning to a cost-effective and non-harmful method to deter slugs that's pet-friendly, wildlife safe, and kind to the resident garden bugs.240ml of water One teaspoon of sugar Half a teaspoon of dry yeast The essential thing is to have a shallow container that sits flush with the ground enabling the slugs to enter with ease.
