Storm Herminia, following on the heels of Storm Eowyn, brings strong winds and heavy rain to the UK, with warnings issued for potential disruption.
A new storm, dubbed Storm Herminia by Spanish meteorologists, battered the UK on Sunday, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain. The storm followed on the heels of Storm Eowyn , which caused widespread disruption and two fatalities. Storm Herminia moved slowly northwards across England and Wales, with gusts of up to 80mph recorded in south-west England.
Yellow wind and rain warnings were issued for much of the south of the UK, with coastal areas of Cornwall and Devon particularly exposed to strong winds. The Met Office warned of potential disruption to travel and power supplies, as well as localized flooding. \Although areas hit by Storm Eowyn are expected to fare slightly better this time, the Met Office predicted snow across higher ground in Scotland. The storm is expected to bring wet and windy weather to southern parts of the UK over the weekend, with some respite from Tuesday onwards. However, the Met Office anticipates some showers and windy conditions, although less disruptive than the recent storms. \Sadly, Storm Eowyn claimed the lives of two men in separate incidents. In Scotland, a 19-year-old man died after a falling tree struck his car, while in Ireland, a 20-year-old man was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle. These tragic incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by severe weather conditions
