The third named storm in a week, Storm Ivo, brings heavy rain and strong winds to Southern England. The storm follows on the heels of Storm Herminia and Storm Eowyn, which caused significant disruption and damage.

Southern England braces for the impact of Storm Ivo , the third named storm to batter Britain in just six days. The storm, originating in Portugal, is set to unleash torrential downpours across the South West this morning, spreading eastward towards Kent. Cornwall anticipates the strongest gusts, potentially reaching 57mph at St Just this evening. Devon could experience winds of up to 48mph in Salcombe, while Dorset sees 34mph gusts in Weymouth.

Further along the coast, Eastbourne in East Sussex and Dover in Kent could be buffeted by winds of 30mph. London, however, will be relatively spared, with gusts expected to reach only 22mph.The heaviest rainfall throughout the day will be concentrated in southern England, although northern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland will also experience frequent showers. Northern and central England, along with Wales, can expect mostly dry and sunny conditions before the rain clears from southern England overnight, leaving most areas relatively dry. The risk of flooding remains high, with the Environment Agency issuing 23 flood warnings and 134 alerts for England today. Natural Resources Wales has also issued seven alerts. This follows the impact of Storm Herminia, named in Spain, which affected Britain earlier this week. This storm was preceded by Storm Eowyn, a powerful 114mph storm named by the Met Office, which struck the UK and Ireland last Friday, resulting in two deaths and widespread travel disruptions. The storm's aftermath saw fallen trees and flooded roads, highlighting the destructive potential of these weather events
