The storm, which has been named by Spanish weather experts, has already wreaked havoc on holidaymakers abroad before making its way to the UK.
A period of heavy rain and strong gusts of wind is expected to sweep across Scotland and the rest of the UK, as the Met Office has warned of an 'unsettled' couple of days ahead.
BBC meteorologist Helen Willetts told Radio 4: "The low pressure that's throwing this rain our way has now been named as Storm Nelson by the Spanish met service.Over in Spain, an alert from Aemet said: "Storm Nelson, recently named by Aemet, will give rise in the coming days to strong gusts of wind and rain in large areas of the territory in a period of great social relevance such as Holy Week.
The strongest winds are expected in the far north of Scotland on Wednesday, with blustery conditions continuing further south. He said: "As we move into the Easter weekend, low pressure is still dominant. There will be further spells of rain, some heavy showers at times. But there is some chance of some longer spells of sunshine developing, the details of this still to be firmed up. It could start to feel a little warmer as a result."
