Several trees and power lines were knocked down on Hillcrest Avenue.
) -Strong storms ripped through Escambia County early this afternoon, but while they moved through quickly, they did leave quite the mess behind. The heavy winds brought this tree down into a power line on longleaf drive leaving the road closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the damage.
“It got dark and then next thing I know we felt the pressure. We felt some kind of pressure and we went and got in the bathtub, and it was just moving fast,” said Larry Stallworth. “That’s what saved me we went and got in the bathtub.” “The wind was just atrocious. I’ve never heard wind like that before and I’m from Ohio and we’ve been through tornadoes. It was just horrible,” said Nancy Justice. “I heard things falling and crashing. I thought my house was going to cave in.”
“A shingle from across the road from their roof went through it because we have a shingle in there and that’s all that was in there was a piece of a shingle so that’s how intense the wind was,” said Justice. “We were safe. We were protected. We have a savior that protects us and we’re ok.”
