'The doctors were arguing with each other saying it wasn't possible for me to have it, yet here I am, facing a battle that no one should ever have to fight.'
At just 21 years old, a Lancashire student was told she had just days to live after receiving a shock cancer diagnosis that's supposedly "impossible to get" at such a young age.
Her condition rapidly worsened over the following weeks, with notable jaundice setting in and a significant reduction in her ability to sit due to discomfort. Her partner, Dylan, rushed her to A&E after observing her deteriorating health, which led to initial suspicions of liver problems a suspicion that tragically developed into a much grimmer reality.
"I was getting infection after infection, every time one cleared another one settled somewhere. In that time I found out I had stage four cancer, and it had spread to my liver. I was transferred to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool." Alex, who graduated from university two months ago and planned to do a masters degree, was discharged from hospital to spend time at home with her mum, Linda, and Dylan. She returned for chemo just days after she was discharged but it was stopped when she threw up blood.
"I've tried to stay strong and to keep fighting with everything I have, but unfortunately my journey is coming to an end. I'm too tired most days to do anything; I suffer with swelling, the swelling has got so bad I have gained ten kilos of fluid and my body is too weak to deal with that immense weight gain.
