Bay Garnett, whose mum hails from Tyrone, brought serious star appeal to Oxfam's Secondhand September
A fashion revolutionary who raised the secondhand stakes by dressing Kate Moss in a thrifted banana top has revealed how her NI mum inspired her career.
We interviewed Bay this Secondhand September, which we are supporting through donation points in our newsrooms.“She had these fashion books in the 1970s and I remember looking at those books because I wanted to be with her when she was working.“I was always captivated by the glamour and I always loved clothes... then later on, I really got into fashion because of secondhand shops.
“The thrift stories in America were just amazing back in the 1990s,” she added. “It was before everyone was doing it so I really did find amazing things.” “To cut a long story short, Alex Shulman, the editor of British Vogue saw those fake campaigns and called me in and said ‘do you want to be an editor here?’
We talked to the charity’s Head of Retail Operations, Rachel Cosgrove-Pearce about what it means for them.
